Protecting Texas’ natural resources through education and
enforcement of state laws is one of the primary missions of Texas A&M
Forest Service.
TFS has 10 full-time investigators and 15 officers
throughout the state who investigate and provide services to the public as
well as local, state and federal agencies. TFS Law Enforcement officers investigate and provide training on wildfire cause determination and wildland arson as requested by TFS personnel, local fire departments, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, or other law enforcement agencies. As trained experts in
investigating felony and misdemeanor timber theft cases, staff often serve as subject matter experts regarding violations of the Natural
Resources Code.
An anonymous hotline is also maintained for the public to report crimes of wildland arson and timber theft.
