PREPARING FOR WILDFIRES
  • Local fire departments are our first line of defense against wildfires and other disasters in Texas. Texas A&M Forest Service provides a suite of assistance programs targeted at building the capabilities of the fire service of Texas.

    Our assistance programs are moving to FireConnect! Currently Training Tuition assistance and Apparatus & Equipment grants are done fully through FireConnect, with other programs being integrated in the near future. FireConnect will become the main hub for all of our programs - including for programs that still use PDF applications for the time being. Basic program overviews can be found below.

    Cost-share program providing funding to rural VFDs for firefighting vehicles, equipment, and training.
    Reimburses eligible VFDs for firefighter insurance.  
      
     FFP Helping Hands
    Provides excess military property to emergency service providers for conversion into firefighting vehicles.
    Facilitates the donation of used firefighting equipment.  
    Risk PoolFiresafe
    Provides vehicle liability insurance to eligible VFDs at a greatly reduced cost. Provides PPE and other equipment to VFDs at a reduced cost.
     FEPP TIFMAS
    Facilitates federal excess property to be loaned to VFDs.  Provides reimbursement grants for training tuition and vehicles to career and large combination fire departments.
