  • PURPOSE OF STATE GRANTS

    Texas A&M Forest Service manages fire department assistance programs which include making grants from funds appropriated in the General Appropriations Act. The purpose of the grant program is summarized here, and links to additional program details are provided.
     + Rural VFD Assistance Grants
    The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance program provides cost-share grants to help eligible volunteer fire departments acquire equipment and training. The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance program was launched in 2002 as a result of House Bill 2604 of the 77th Texas State Legislature.

     + TIFMAS Grants
    The Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) program provides grants to help eligible career and combination fire departments acquire equipment and training. The TIFMAS program was launched in 2010 as a result of Senate Bill 1011 of the 81st Texas State Legislature.
