Masterson State Forest–519 Acres
This
519-acre Jasper County forest was acquired through donation from Leonora
Masterson in 1985. The primary purpose of the forest is resource education
and forestry demonstration for all Texans and visitors. Sound scientific
forest management that protects and perpetuates native flora and fauna is
practiced. Restoration of the native longleaf pine ecosystem and the
development of a longleaf seed production area is a primary focus for
management on the Masterson. A portion of the forest has been set aside for
progeny tests with the purpose of improving genetics in southern yellow pine. |

The forest is open by reservation only. Group resource
education tours are available by appointment. Texas state forests are game sanctuaries with no firearms or
