Now is the time to reforest your land. Today's forests are the result of planning done 20 to 50 years ago. Those who reforested their property back then have seen substantial income from timber, as well as many other benefits.

In past years, more than half of the harvested acres belonging to Texans were not adequately reforested. As a result, many stands, or forested acres, grew back in brush and severely limited the owner’s future income potential.

Reforestation practices have come a long way. Improved tree genetics have increased yields from 15 to 25 percent per acre and have reduced the length of time from planting to harvest.

Texas A&M Forest Service district foresters are available to provide technical guidance. By discussing the best tree species for the site, determining site preparation practices and providing information on seedling nurseries, a district forester is your number one resource as you plan your reforestation.

Forest Management Information Sheets provide information on specific topics related to reforestation.
