The Joint Chief's Restoration Partnership brings together the USDA Forest Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, National Wild Turkey Federation and Texas A&M Forest Service to reduce wildfire potential and improve forest health and water quality on the Sam Houston National Forest and surrounding non-industrial private forests. Landowners may be eligible for financial assistance for implementing management practices such as prescribed burning and thinning of high hazard pine stands. Priority areas for this effort include Liberty, Montgomery, San Jacinto and Walker counties.
Prescribed Burning Assistance
Through this partnership Texas A&M Forest Service is able to provide financial assistance for prescribed burning for eligible landowners to reduce the threat of wildfire protecting communities and ecosystems. All applications for prescribed burning assistance must be submitted by February 15, 2016 to be considered for funding under the Joint Chief's Landscape Restoration Partnership.

Southern Pine Beetle/Forest Thinning Assistance
Also available is financial assistance for thinning of high hazard pine stands to increase forest health and decrease the potential of a Southern Pine Beetle outbreak. Eligible landowners can apply for assistance on first thinning high hazard pine stands and funding will be awarded on a first come first serve basis until funds are depleted.
