Wildfire Prevention legend Smokey Bear invites you to be part of a worldwide treasure hunt.
In celebration of Smokey's 70th birthday in 2014, Texas A&M Forest Service created a wildfire prevention campaign using geocoins.
Seventy trackable geocoins have been registered at geocaching.com.
The coins were originally placed in various Texas A&M Forest Service geocaches and other public geocaches across the state. Geocachers are able to locate, move and log these trackable coins.
Since their release, Smokey geocoins have:
- Visited all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia
- Been found in 19 different countries
- Toured 5 continents (only missed S. America and Antarctica)
- Traveled over 420,000 miles (nearly the distance to the moon and back)
